“Books that are photos.. is the first of two shows programmed by Museo Reina Sofía on photobooks. This show features a selection of about 150 photobooks published in Spain from the year 2000 onwards, especially in the last four years. This upcoming proposal is to be followed, in 2014, by the exhibition The Spanish Photobook, 1905-1977, which will delve further into the research carried out by the Museum on photobooks. The exhibition forms part of the program connected to the public presentation of the Library and Documentation Centre’s collection”. For more details, click here.
In 2013, the International Center of Photography New York (ICP) has included “Ostalgia” in the 2013 Top Ten books of photography.
“I love this book. The cover is that of my favourite notebooks. The paper is soft. The Soviet-era vernacular images are striking and Rota’s architectural images are sublime. Houses of Culture of the Trade Unions, Houses of Culture of the Socialist Pioneers, Congress Centers of the Workers, Lenin Palaces, Circuses and Sports Palaces, Museums, Memorials and Mausoleum, etc.” (Matthew Carson // Associate librarian & Archivist at the ICP)

From April to June 2013, the photography series “Ostalgia” has been exhibited at the Kursala room of the University of Cádiz. The exhibition was curated by Jesús Micó and was accompanied by a catalog edited by the an editorial based in Galicia, Spain, called Fabulatorio.
“Ostalgia”, the photo book can be bought on the Fabulatorio website and here you can find out more about the process of edition.
On the 5th of July has been opened in Sevillla the double exhibition Missbehave, organized at Lugadero and Un Gato en Bicicleta at the same as the launch of the book with homonym title, edited by Vibok Work and co financed in Book-a through crowdfunding.
This is a crossed exhibition dedicated to the series Big Exit and Ostalgia, both by Simona Rota. The book and the exhibition Missbehave seeks to bring to light the underground ties between two apparently very different works. Both share the same concern about the possibility of the individual freedom versus quiet environments that affect and limit us. Also the idea that things, objects, buildings, live with us and have their own life. But these are only some of the many connections that intertwine them.
The exhibitions as well as the book can be found at both locations: “Big Exit” along with the book “Missbehave” at Un Gato en Bicicleta (street Regina, 8) from July 5th until September 7th 2013; “Ostalgia” along with the book “Missbehave” at Lugadero (street Correduría, 5) from July 5th until August 2nd 2013.
The exhibitions are curated by Paula V. Álvarez, also editor of the book “Missbehave”.
